South Brisbane Attractions

South Bank

Escape the hustle and bustle of the city, and take in the natural majesty of the South Bank parklands. The 17-hectare riverfront urban oasis is a delightful spot for a picnic, stroll, or a warmhearted conversation with an equally enthralled sightseer. You can also bike or jog, or relax at the whimsical pavilions of Kangaroo Point. There are also plenty of shopping and dining facilities.

The Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre

One of the largest convention centres in Australia, the Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre hosts a number of expositions, gala dinners, seminars, comedy acts, and even concerts from celebrated artists. 

Queensland Cultural Centre

The Queensland Cultural Centre is an innovative arts precinct containing the Gallery of Modern Art (GoMA), Queensland Art Gallery, Queensland Museum, State Library of Queensland, and the Queensland Performing Arts Centre (QPAC).


The Gallery of Modern Art features world-renowned exhibitions and also includes the Australian Cinémathèque. It is the perfect place to leisurely admire Australian and international paintings, sculptures, decorative art objects and works on paper.


Many world-class musicals have been staged at QPAC including Cats, The Phantom of the OperaCHICAGO, Mamma Mia!, The Boy From Oz, and Dirty Dancing. QPAC also regularly features performances from the Australian Ballet, Sydney Dance Company, Brandenburg Orchestra, Opera Australia, Bell Shakespeare, Bangarra Dance Theatre, and the Australian Chamber Orchestra, to name a few.

Suncorp Stadium

The Sebel South Brisbane (Formerly Sudima Suites) is a stone’s throw away from Queensland’s premier sporting cathedral and outdoor concert venue. Suncorp Stadium is home to the Brisbane Broncos of the National Rugby League, the Queensland Reds of Super Rugby, and the Brisbane Roar, part of Football Federation Australia. The 52,500 seat venue has also in the past attracted several international acts, including The Police and U2.

There is also free bus transport from Mater Hill Bus Station for event and ticket holders.

The Gabba

If you’re an AFL or cricket fan, the Gabba Cricket Ground is the place to go to for you. The 42,000 seat oval sports venue is the stomping ground of the mighty Brisbane Lions of the Australian Football League, and the Queensland Bulls, part of Queensland Cricket.

City Sightseeing

Enjoy a stroll by the famous Brisbane River or rent a bike to take in the disarming old buildings that still enrich the South Brisbane landscape. The Brisbane CBD and City Botanic Gardens are a short stroll away via the Goodwill Bridge.
